St. Thomas Episcopal Church will be holding “Blue Christmas” services at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec.11.
There will be sacred music, readings from the Bible, prayers and a homily.
Those attending will be invited to share their loss, sorrow or grief by writing messages on index cards and placing them in a basket at the back of the church.
The messages will be read during the service and candles will be lit for each prayer intention.
The Rev. Carol Gadsden, the church’s rector, said it is inviting “any in the community who are mourning, cast apart from family celebrations and feeling alienated or depressed.”
She added that the church hoped that the service would provide them with a “place of peace, rest, comfort and solace.”
St. Thomas is located at 168 West Boston Post Road, at the corner of Mt. Pleasant Avenue. There is ample parking space and it is five blocks from the Metro North train station.
According to Gadsden, the church welcomes “seekers, searchers and doubters.”
It offers worship services in English and Spanish, Christian education for children, Bible study and book groups for adults, and a concert series with internationally acclaimed musicians.
It also runs a weekly food pantry and thrift shop and hosts free community dinners.
It is also the venue for an after-school child care program, a farmers’ market and a Christmas fair that raises money for local nonprofits.
